While working on the first video for SERI they came to us with an additional ask for a direct to business video, focused on the R2 Certifications they provide to recycling facilities around the world. We knew we couldn't swing another full 3D piece in the timeline we had so we pitched a 2D style that would be more approachable and a bit more flexible in the visuals. But SERI was interested in making something more than the standard vector explainer. This lead us to pitching another style that has been on the backburner for years. We pulled from all of our favorite UPA revival styles of the 90's like Powerpuff Girls and Dexter's Lab for the backgrounds, while leaning into timesaving animation techniques from the same era to help deliver a video that was exciting but also quick to produce.
